A Reason for Alarm

Cross posted at The Word Smiths

While it remains to be seen how any of this will affect U.S. foreign relations, over the past couple of years, I have noticed an alarming trend in worldwide elections:  the right is on the rise.

A Candidate We Can All be Proud Of

Cross posted from The Word Smiths

Recently browsing the blogs, I ran across some posts by a gentleman named Marshall Adame who is running for Congress in North Carolina's Third Congressional District.

I read through his issues pages and found only one issue that I disagreed with, which was stunning considering the wide range and depth of issues he addresses.  He has written for the American Chronicle online, and is reaching out to the netroots by regularly posting diaries on DKos and MyDD.

His biography is incredible.  A former Marine and a man who was on the ground in Iraq from 2003-06 as the coalition's director at Basra International Airport.  In short, this guy is crazy qualified for the job.

Why John Edwards "Gets It"

Cross post from The Word Smiths

For those of you who don't know, the Edwards campaign has produced a :30 ad asking Congress to send the same bill back to President Bush, the same thing I called on Congress to do last week.

Michael Baroody nomination update

I spoke with Chris Day, who works as an adviser Sen. Bill Nelson (D-FL) for his work on the Commerce committee, yesterday morning regarding the appointment of Michael Baroody to head the Consumer Product Safety Commission. According to Day, Sen. Nelson has "serious concerns" about the appointment of Baroody to head the CPSC. One concern that was emphasized twice by Day was on issues regarding generators (important in Florida with hurricanes). However, Day did stress that they were working hard to make sure that Baroody did get a fair hearing, but that there would be, "a lot of questions to be answered."

When asked if he had any feeling on the rest of the Democratic members of the committee, he did not have a sure answer, but he did say he imagined that, "they're in line with Sen. Nelson's view on his concerns."

It's Time For a Showdown

Over and over again, we have heard President Bush and the members of his administration contend that the war in Iraq is making "progress."
